Sports Funding
What is The Sport Premium?
The Sport Premium is an annual government funding programme that provides around £320 million to primary schools in England. Aimed at supporting pupils in Years 1 to 6, it ensures every school receives at least £16,000 each year. This funding helps us to enhance the quality of our PE provision, strengthen staff expertise, and increase opportunities for all children to engage in sport and physical activity.
The children of Whitfield C of E School are given equal access to high-quality PE and a broad range of sporting and physical activities. Thanks to our rural setting, Whitfield C of E school benefits from large outdoor areas, which are utilised for our lessons. However, travelling to external events can prove difficult due to the distance we have to travel. For this reason, we aim use our Sports Premium funding primarily to enhance our provision on site but also look at ways in which we can support our children in accessing sporting opportunities beyond our school grounds.
Swimming
Every summer term, the whole school enjoys attending Haltwhistle Leisure centre for weekly swimming lessons. 100% of our current Year 6 cohort are meeting the National Curriculum requirements to swim confidently and proficiently over a distance of 25m, using a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations.
